Half-Year! BOOM!

Isaac visited his pediatrician yesterday for his six-month check-up and the doctor says he is doing great! He is very strong, has great reflexes, and is very attentive to his surroundings. Here are some stats:
Length: 2′ 2.5″ (26.5 in.)
44.14%ile (a big jump from 21.65%ile at 4 months!)
Weight: 18lb. 13 oz.
72%ile
Head Circumference: 17.32 in.
67.75 %ile
Isaac has mastered rolling over in both directions, is able to scoot with confidence and is on the edge of a full crawl. He LOVES being tickled. He is most ticklish in the rib area and, of course, just underneath his armpits. He likes to squeal at a very high pitch and does a lot of “raspberries”. He goes in and out of those phases, but when he does do it, he does it all day long.
Although Isaac’s motor skills are developing faster than the average baby, he has yet to start babbling. At this age, many babies are doing pretend conversations with themselves or with others saying “ba”, “ma”, or “ga”. Here, they are learning language and are mimicking different sounds and intonations they hear from the people around them. The doctor isn’t very concerned that Isaac has not done this yet, but said we should keep an eye out for it. If by 9 months he hasn’t babbled yet, we’ll do some hearing tests as that may be the culprit. However, I forgot to mention to the doctor that Isaac is around family that speaks two languages. Isaac regularly hears Vietnamese and English spoken all day. Studies show that babies who live in a bilingual family tend to start speaking later than their peers. But once they learn how to speak, the learning ramps up real quickly. I am hoping that is the case with Isaac.
So far, Isaac has not found any food he doesn’t like yet. Although, he’s not a big fan of eating solids in general (he gets tired of it after 5 minutes), he does eat everything that is presented to him. Isaac has had brown rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, apples, bananas, sweet peas, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Today, we are going to see what he thinks about mangoes!
Dan and I have not taken Isaac’s official six-month photo yet because on the 19th, Dan came home late from work and Isaac was already asleep for the night. And yesterday, the 20th, Isaac got vaccinated and was in a pretty miserable mood. This morning, however, he was back to his happy self and we plan to take a picture of Isaac as soon as Dan comes home from work! In the meantime, here’s a picture of Isaac with Dr. Chapman after getting a clean bill of health!
