Teething

Isaac is beginning to show signs that he may be teething.  We’ve bought several different kinds of teethers to try to help with his discomfort.  He has the water-filled plastic teethers that you keep cold in the refrigerator, cloth ones where you get it wet and freeze it, and other random plastic toy teethers.  He doesn’t seem to be too interested in any of them really.  Surprisingly, what he prefers most is his old newborn baby bottle.  We no longer use this nipple because it is a slow-flow, but Isaac enjoys chewing on it and massaging his gums with it.  Who knew that we didn’t have to spend any money on new teethers and that we had the perfect one all along.

Mixed Feelings

Isaac scooting and crawling around the apartment is both exciting and terrifying. How did this happen? Didn’t we *just* leave the hospital in a wheelchair together? I feel like all this happened in a blink of an eye.

Scoot Scoot!

After several attempts at getting Isaac to scoot for the camera with a number of his toys, he seemed to only be interested in Mama’s cup of coffee.

According to Baby Center, babies crawl between 7 and 10 months. At 5.5 months, Isaac is well on his way! Dan and I are going to really need to baby-proof the house.

Minutes-old vs. 5.5-months-old

When I think of Isaac the day he was born, the picture on the left immediately comes to mind.  That was the face I instantly fell in love with.  So whenever he falls asleep on me and I see that face, it ALWAYS takes me back to the day he was born and it makes me feel sentimental.  He is proof that there is such a thing as Love At First Sight.

It’s Funny Because It’s True

Five-ish Month

Isaac has been a ball of energy these days.  As you can see from the five-ish month photos, he is constantly moving which makes for even more great pictures.  Additional new developments include grabbing everything that is within arms-length and then putting it in his mouth, barrel-rolling but only to the right, he has become a drool machine, and he’s able to communicate without only crying.

Isaac’s latest thing is to make the “Mmm…” sound.  Every time he does that, we encourage him more by saying M-words to him like “Mama”, “Monkey”, and “Moo”.  I’m crossing my fingers that his first word will be Mama!

Things he is beginning to outgrow are trips-to-the-bathroom for soothing and his swing.  I don’t remember when was the last time we had to resort to the bathroom fan to soothe him.  For the most part, hugs from Daddy or Mama work just fine.  And the swing, his feet are beginning to hang out at the end.  In the past, the only way he could sleep was in the swing at maximum swinging and with crickets chirping.  We would go through at least 4 D batteries a week!  Now that he is beginning to be too big for the swing, we started having him learn to sleep in his crib.  The downside is, since he started spending his nights in the crib, he no longer sleeps through the night.  He wakes up once during the night for a feeding, which isn’t so bad considering I have other friends whose babies wake up 2-4 times.

We have to start child-proofing the apartment now because Isaac loves to barrel-roll across the room.  Below is a picture of what Isaac gets himself into when I leave the room for 1 minute to make him some oatmeal cereal.

I am so enjoying Isaac at this age.  He is so much fun and is such a happy baby.  Friends always ask me if he always smiling or if he’s just in a good mood at the moment.  I can honestly say that he is always smiling and laughing.  Of course, Isaac does have his moments when he’s unhappy about something, and he lets you know that he’s unhappy.  In fact, he lets everyone in the room know.  He’s very much like his Daddy in that he when he is upset, he has a pretty bad attitude.  I wouldn’t expect a child of Dan to be any other way.  But those moments are very rare.

From now on, whenever I post a photo up on Facebook, I’m going to try to remember to also post it on this website.  I know there are many people without a Facebook account but would really enjoy looking at Isaac’s pictures.

Five-ish Months!

Okay well we SORT OF missed the 5-month birthday.  It turns out that having a baby is really tiring and takes up all your time.  Who knew?

Anyhow, since we missed it, I’m posting a few pics from the photo shoot.  I’m also adding, as a bonus, a video of Isaac trying solid foods for the second time!  Enjoy!
