Isaac’s First Haircut

I got sick of Isaac’s comb-over and, since his new hair is all in now, decided to cut it.  Now we have the same haircut!

Viva (en) Las Vegas!

SolarCity, the company where I have worked for almost two years now, is expanding into Las Vegas, Nevada.  Our headquarters in San Mateo, CA is overflowing and several departments will be expanded into the new office.  As part of that expansion, they are offering some great incentives to get existing employees out there to spread the culture and help get a critical mass from Day 1.

Well, my department is one that is expanding.  Jenny and I thought a lot about it and have decided to accept the offer to move.

It makes a lot of sense for us for a lot of reasons.  The biggest reason is that, between real estate prices in Vegas being amazingly low right now and the incentives being offered by SolarCity, we will be living quite comfortably out there.  We can get a beautiful, large home in a safe, quiet neighborhood with good schools.  We can send Isaac to all the additional schooling and lessons he needs or wants.  We can provide him the opportunity to grow up without us worrying whether we’re going to be able to make rent after repairing the car.

We can do all this on my salary alone, but Jenny does still want to work.  She decided to interview at SolarCity and has been offered a position as well!

I just got back from a scoping trip with about 30 co-workers and I’m even more excited now that I have a better idea of what the real Las Vegas (the part off the strip) is all about.  Jenny and I are now pre-approved for a home loan and will be flying out there for another scoping trip in the next few weeks.  The move should happen before June 1 (though the date isn’t finalized yet).

We are both really excited about this move and all the opportunities it will provide.  We are going to miss the Bay Area, but we’re looking forward to this adventure!  (Speaking of adventure, check this out!)

Seven Months

Sorry we missed doing the six-month photos, but hopefully the seven-month photo session will make up for it.

So at less than seven months, Isaac has mastered crawling, can sit up on his own, and is able to climb on things to stand up.  He is beginning to communicate more, which is a relief.  I don’t know if it’s babbling exactly, but he grunts and says “ah” back and forth with us like we’re having a conversation.

Isaac is now eating several different fruits and vegetables.  Some new ones are: zucchini, brocolli, corn, avocado, apricot, quinoa, raisin, and pear.

Some other developments:  He has learned how to scream when he is upset.  This usually happens in his crib when he’s tired but is fighting it with all his might.  He also would do raspberries after we initiate it, which is exciting because I feel like this is our first real interaction/game with one another.

He is sleeping exclusively in his crib now (no more swing).  He wakes up only once a night and it’s usually around 4AM, after having slept for 6-7 hours.  All things considered, that’s pretty good.

So much of his personality is coming out these days.  He loves to laugh and play.  He is a very, very curious baby.  When there is something he does not recognize, he wants to go to it, touch it, climb on it, and then put it in his mouth.  He’s also got a bad attitude sometimes when he’s upset and unhappy.  He will scream, squirm, and try to roll over during diaper changes.  He also yells when we restrict him from going somewhere or touching something.  And when we remove him from an area, he immediately crawls back to it over and over, no matter how many times we grab him and say “no, no, no!”

In a nutshell, he is his father’s son.  🙂

Photo Shoot

This weekend, our very good friend Chung (who shot our wedding and our engagement session) did a photo shoot of our family.  I think it came out just amazingly well and I’m happy to share it here for everyone!

If you’re in the area and like Chung‘s work, I highly recommend you seek her out at her website http://www.chungnguyen.com.

Baby Daredevil

“Look, Mama!  No feet!”

This was the best picture I could get.  When I first caught him doing this, his legs were much higher and face much closer to the ground.  lol

Before and After

2-months-old vs. 6.5-months-old

Mother’s Musings

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother putting away Isaac’s 30 toys that are strewn all over the living room while he is napping…  And then I step on a rattle and almost fall on my face and remember that is exactly why.

Isaac + Book = ?

Here is a picture I shared with people of Isaac with a book.  Pretty impressive for a 6.5 mo. old, right?  He’s going to be a scholar!

Here is what Isaac REALLY does with a book.  Not so scholarly anymore, is he?
