6-Month Mark

Here’s what Freckle and I look like today.

For some reason, the thumbnail makes the color a bit off. Be sure to click on the thumbnail to view the photo.

Freckle and I went to our monthly appt. with Dr. Beddow and everything is looking good.  Freckle’s heart rate is normal.  He was actually moving around a lot while the doctor was trying to listen, so we know he is also strong.  Freckle is moving up my belly, as he should.  He’s at about an inch and a half or two above my belly button.

The next test I need to take is to make sure my glucose level is normal.  It’s a standard test you take at around six-month to make sure the mother does not have gestational diabetes.  I will keep everyone posted with the result, even though I’m sure everything is fine.

A Letter to Freckle

Dear Freckle,

I love that you’re moving and that you’re kicking. It lets me know that you’re well and strong. But can you do Mama a favor? When you kick, kick anywhere except for Mama’s bladder. Thanks.

Love,
Mama

Subject Clarity

Well, the second assignment in my photo class is now complete.  The assignment was called “Subject Clarity” and the goal was to shoot pictures where it was easy to identify the subject of the photo.  I know what you’re thinking, but it’s harder than it sounds!

For a few days in there I rented a very nice macro lens; this let me get those amazing razor-sharp closeups that you’ll see.  Also it rained almost non stop for two weeks so you’ll see that a lot of the photos were taken in the rain.

Anyhow, it’s done and critiqued and submitted for grading.  My five absolute best, as determined by the class and the prof, are now up on the Photo Gallery page.  I also threw in some that didn’t make the final cut but are still some of my favorites from the batch of several hundred that I shot.  Enjoy!

Happy Passover!

This past weekend, the family flew to Charleston, S. Carolina to celebrate Passover.  We had a marvelous time there and even had a bit of time to do some shopping at the Premium Outlets!  Freckle was able to make out with some awesome clothes from Safta and PopPop.

Below are pictures of his clothes.  -J

Genetic Screening – COMPLETED!

I received some wonderful news from our genetic counselor this afternoon.   Freckle’s second genetic screening went very well!!!  For diseases such as Down Syndrome, Tay Sachs, and Spina Bifida, his chances were as little as 1:100,000.  The counselor said the results were the best possible results a baby can have.

I also went to visit Dr. Beddow today for a quick check-up to make sure Freckle and I are progressing well in the pregnancy.  The appointment was literally 10 minutes long.  She checked Freckle’s heartbeat, which was normal.  And then she felt my belly a bit to make sure Freckle is now up to my bellybutton, which he certainly is.  I still haven’t gained any weight since first visiting her in early January, but she says for me to not worry about it.  We both think that I was probably heavier than usual since it was right after the holidays and using that as a reference weight isn’t necessarily the most accurate.  She even made sure to tell me that she does not want me to actively try to gain weight.  So I will continue doing what I’m doing, but I’m sure next month I’ll be heavier.  I feel like I’ve been getting bigger by the day ever since I past the 4.5 month mark.

So good news all around this Wednesday afternoon.  Freckle and I are feeling pretty good today!

It’s Official! Freckle is… A BOY!

Dan and I just got back from the hospital and the ultrasound technician showed us that Freckle is a boy!  I’ll spare you the photo of his baby parts, but trust me when I say, he’s definitely a boy.  🙂

During this visit, the technician took several photos of various body parts to make sure Freckle is developing well and that he’s nice and healthy.  Pictures of his heart, kidneys, bones, skull, etc were taken.  Unfortunately, again, Freckle was being uncooperative and wouldn’t flip over for the technician, so I’ll have to head back to the hospital again in two weeks to get better shots of Freckle’s face.  Neither Bob Marley nor Iron Maiden would flip that baby over! But from all the photos we did see, Freckle’s looking good!

The technician actually made a funny comment.  She said, “Your baby was really feeling open about showing off his private area!  That was the easiest picture to take!”  I wonder if that should worry me!  😛

Below is a cute profile picture of Freckle.  I’m convinced that he’s got Dan’s nose (Hooray!).  If Freckle had my nose, it’d be much flatter from a side view.  🙂  He’s so cute with his little nose, little lips, and little hand!!!  I love him so much!

Someone’s Showing! (It’s Jenny, BTW)

Well, Jenny’s finally showing enough that we can take a picture and it won’t just look like she had a big dinner!  Here’s what Freckle is looking like from the outside these days.

On Wednesday we’re going in for our second Genetic Screening ultrasound and we should have some pictures of what s/he looks like from the inside.  Oh and we’ll find out if Freckle is a boy or a girl.

Chocoholic No More

Random fact about my pregnancy:

As I’m sure many of you already know, I LOOOOVE chocolate.  The only kind of cake I eat is chocolate.  I love Duplos, Kit Kats, Crunch, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Cold Stone’s Chocolate Devotion, Girl Scouts’ Peanut Butter Patties, M&M’s, Hershey’s and the list goes on…  However, ever since I became pregnant, I haven’t felt any kind of urge to have any chocolate.  Not to say that I have a chocolate aversion, because I don’t!  I just don’t really feel like having any.  It’s actually a really weird feeling because my whole life’s been pretty much dedicated to figuring out when will be the next time I get another piece of chocolate.  In any case, I guess it’s a good thing to not have it as a pregnancy craving.  It’s not a very healthy snack and contributes very few nutrients to Freckle.

However, I can’t help but wonder if I’ll become a chocoholic again after Freckle is born…

Photo Gallery Page

Some of you may have noticed that I put a new “Photo Gallery” page up on the top there, next to where it says “Home”.  Feel free to go in there and check it out.  It’s not really Freckle-related at this point; consider it practice for figuring out how best to display photos of the little one when it arrives.

Feedback on the layout of the page and ease of use of the gallery is appreciated.  (Feedback on the actual photos will only be accepted if it’s glowing praise.  Mom, I know you got my back on that one!)  There are a lot of options for programs to use to display the photos and I’m not completely sold on any I’ve tried yet.  The current one is relatively easy to use once it’s setup but it’s still not perfect.  Nevertheless, let me know what YOU think.

There should be a comment box on that page that you can use.  If not, comment here and let me know!
